A tax return is information you send to Tax Administration Jamaica showing income, business expenses and other information required for a particular tax period.

Learn the basic steps for organizing your records, filing a tax return and preparing to apply for a Tax Compliance Certificate.
A tax return is information you send to Tax Administration Jamaica showing income, business expenses and other information required for a particular tax period.
Filing means submitting the required tax return. Filing a return and paying tax are two different steps.
Paying means sending any tax amount that is due. You may still need to file a return even if no tax is payable.
A Tax Compliance Certificate, commonly called a TCC, is proof that your tax affairs are considered compliant for the period covered.
A TCC may be requested when applying for certain government contracts, loans, grants, licences and business-support programmes.
Registering a business does not mean that it will remain tax compliant automatically. Required returns must continue to be filed, and amounts due must be properly addressed.

Good records make tax filing easier. Do not wait until the filing deadline to start looking for receipts.
Step 1
Gather your sales records, expense receipts, invoices, bank information and previous tax records for the period you are filing.
Step 2
Go directly to the Tax Administration Jamaica online portal. Avoid entering your tax information on unofficial websites.
Step 3
If you do not already have access, follow TAJ's instructions to create an account and register for its online services. If you already have access, sign in securely.
Never give your TAJ password or verification code to Toyaash Business Hub.
Step 4
Inside the TAJ portal, review the tax accounts connected to you or your business.
Step 5
The correct return depends on how the business is legally structured and the type of income earned.
If you do not know which return to select, stop and ask TAJ or a qualified accountant. Do not guess.
Step 6
Use your business records to enter the information requested on the official return.
Step 7
Check the taxpayer name, TRN, tax period, income, expenses and calculations before submitting.
Step 8
Submit the return and save the confirmation, reference number and a copy of the completed return.
Step 9
If tax is due, use an approved TAJ payment method and save the payment receipt.
Step 10
Check that the return and payment appear on the correct tax account. Deal with missing returns or unpaid balances as soon as possible.
March 15 is generally the annual income-tax filing date in Jamaica. However, deadlines and requirements can change. Always confirm the current deadline with Tax Administration Jamaica.
A TCC is not a grant or loan. It is evidence of tax compliance. Before applying, check that the required returns are filed and amounts due have been properly addressed.

To be tax compliant, it is not enough to register the business. Required returns must be filed, and amounts due must be paid or handled through an arrangement accepted by the relevant authority.
Do not panic. A TCC may be delayed or refused if returns are missing, payments are outstanding, information does not match or another compliance matter needs attention.
